Coffee Pairings for Girl Scout Cookies

Coffee Pairings for Girl Scout Cookies

It’s that time of the year again! The Girl Scouts of America band together and hit up every parent, parents office, parents friend, distant relative, and wal-mart within a 100 mile radius to sell us a little piece of happyness. We are inundated with these delicious confections that instantly make us feel guilty for consuming an entire box in a sitting.

I don’t know about you, but I love these little future Sales Reps of America and their ability to make otherwise grumpy people happy and the already happy, happier. So to celebrate this time of the year, which should be added to the national calendar of holidays, we have put together a rough list of coffees by origin or region and the girl scout cookie that would best pair with it. Using our extensive knowledge of both coffee and girl scout cookies, we sat down over a cup of Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Ayele and developed the definitive source of coffee pairings for Girl scout Cookies.

Thin Mints

Pair with a great single source coffee from Central or South America.  These regions are known for their smooth Chocolate, Nutty, and Citric flavors that would pair well with the Thin Mints and accentuate the mintiness.  We recommend our current Guatemala or Nicaraguan offerings.

Samoas / Caramel deLites

These cookies are my achilles heal and have been the discussion of many cookie interventions by my wife and children. Pair with a single origin coffee from Sulawesi or the Hulia region of Colombia.  These coffees present a nice Caramel and Toffee notes as well as lively fruit notes on the front end.  I would recommend our current Colombian offering.

Tagalongs / Peanut Butter Patties

Pair these terrifically perfect little cookies with a single source Costa Rican.  Our current offering has a roasted peanut notes with lemony acidity and a heavy mouthfeel that pairs perfectly with the Tagalongs.

Trefoils / Shortbread

Pair these with any coffee you like.  Shortbread goes great with everything.  My personal favorite with Trefoils is coffee with a raw sugar note and our current coffee from Burundi has just that.

Do-si-dos / Peanut Butter Sandwich

Pair this delectable cookie with a fantastic Costa Rican coffee with notes of Chocolate and Nut and I guarantee that you will not be sorry.

Cranberry Citrus Crisps

Pair these with a Natural Ethiopian Coffee from the Yirgacheffe region.  With loads of fruit notes such as cherry and cranberry with a lemonade acidity, you can’t go wrong.

Lemonades

These guys go great with a Mexican coffee from the Chiapas region.  This coffee with have loads of chocolate, toffee and lemon acidity.

Rah-Rah Raisins

Pair the cookie with a Rwandan / DR Congo coffee from the Kivu Area – Western Rwanda / Eastern DR Congo.  These coffees are creamy with caramel, raisin and tart intense acidity and would compliment this cookie perfectly.

Savannah Smiles

While I am not a huge fan of these, they do pair well with coffees from Ethiopia’s Yirgacheffe region.  Give one a try and maybe this cookie will become your favorite.

In Closing

With so many great coffees available now-a-days, it can be a little intimidating trying to find the perfect one.  We’ll, Im here to tell you, they are all just about perfect.  Each is unique and can offer you something special. I hope that at the very least this list helps you to pick that perfect coffee to go with that perfect cookie that you wait all year for.  Worst case scenario, you start drinking better coffee.
